Gambling-Related Harm to Be Taken into Account by Lotto NZ Before Further Plans Involving the Implementation of Third Weekly Draw

Lotto New Zealand has shared that the implementation of a third weekly draw could take up to 5 years.

Reportedly, the organisation has filed expression of interest documents regarding the potential suppliers of a replacement to the Lottery’s system. The aforementioned change includes possible plans for games in the future years, including the proposed implementation of a third draw and expanding the online offering of the Lotto.

Lotto New Zealand has now explained that any of the changes would need at least 18 months, if not even longer to be smoothly implemented if they were approved. The organisation issued a statement confirming that if it made a decision to roll out a third draw as part of its offerings, this would take between 3 and 5 years to be actually implemented after getting official approval from the competent authorities.

The statement issued by Lotto New Zealand also read that competent regulatory bodies would thoroughly check the effect of the addition of another draw on gambling-related harm. If the organisation decided to proceed with the changes, it would have consultations with New Zealand’s Ministry of Health and the Department of Internal Affairs. Any changes brought to its game structure would be subject to ministerial approval.

Lotto NZ’s Gaming System Replacement Likely to Require Ministerial Approval

Recently, it was revealed that Lotto New Zealand has planned the addition of a third weekly draw, as well as a significant boost in its range of online gaming options. Although the changes are still not concrete, some of them would likely require ministerial approval, especially considering the calls of some social agencies for stricter measures against gambling-related harm as some people have already been struggling with problem gambling

According to reports, New Zealand’s Lotteries Commission, also known as Lotto NZ, is in the process of obtaining a gaming system replacement that could also result in an expansion of the number of digital products that is currently being offered by it. The gaming system is considered the very base of the organisation’s operations, especially considering the fact that it involves both paper-based and digital systems.

The calls for expressions of interest in the aforementioned contract note for the potential expansion of the number of games that can be offered by Lotto New Zealand are awaiting a review to be completed by the local Government.

As mentioned above, Lotto NZ has considered the addition of a third draw that will help it increase the revenue it generates online. The organisation is willing to migrate as many of its retail players as possible to its digital operations. It has also called on contractors to make sure they expand the range of online gambling options for local consumers, in order to be worthy competitors to international lottery operators.

According to some documents, Lotto New Zealand remains particularly focused on boosting its revenue from the so-called instant reward gambling games available online as it believes they present a significant opportunity for further growth.
